Has anyone encountered this split personality before? Any solution? Yes one could argue that just letting Premiere use that default location for all cache files could be the solution, however my work involves some very large long form projects with massive cache files so this is a hesitation here. If I clear that COMMON folder of all its files and restart, Premiere will rebuild cache files there again in an unclear manner, creating new cache files unrelated to the ones previously there, and yet also creating files in the designated folder on the external drive. I can find no correlation between cache files landing in COMMON vs landing in the correctly assigned folder, it truly appears random and sporadic with no link to any action.

With all preferences pointed toward the folder I’ve created on my external drive, Premiere still uses that COMMON folder in what appears to be a random manner – cache files suddenly begin appearing there with no change in settings or no identifiable action on my part, and files continue to be created in the folder on the external drive as well. However, Premiere continues to put SOME media cache files in its default location: User > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Common, regardless of where it is directed to place them in the two preference settings available: Preferences > Media Cache, and Project Settings > Scratch Disks. My preference has been to point all media cache files to a dedicated folder on the external drive that contains my media – there will be pros and cons of this, but this has functioned well for the most part for many projects.
